How Invoice Numbering Works
This generator creates invoice IDs from four parts: a prefix, an optional date segment, a sequence number, and an optional suffix.
The sequence increases one by one from your chosen starting value. Padding keeps numbers fixed-width, such as 0001, 0002, 0003, which makes sorting and reconciliation easier.
Date format is optional, but many teams include year or month to group invoices by period. Example pattern: INV-2026-05-0001.
For clean accounting records, keep one numbering format and never reuse issued invoice numbers.
